The Department of Statistics offers several programs at the undergraduate level in the Faculty of Science. Our undergraduate programs emphasize the role of statistics within the general framework of problem solving, and help students develop an understanding of the concepts of observation, hypothesis, evidence, inference, and validation. The programs help students develop critical statistical reasoning, with emphasis on the development of computational, mathematical, and communication skills, both oral and written. For each undergraduate program, in addition to the specific program requirements linked below, there are several Faculty of Science requirements students need to fulfill. For full details on these requirements, see the calendar entry on General Information about the Bachelor of Science. Furthermore, for those students who wish to obtain an A. Stat. accreditation upon graduation, The Statistical Society of Canada has approved a list of our undergraduate courses for that purpose.
Major/Honours in Statistics

The B.Sc. in Statistics is offered as both major and honours programs. Statistics students select a nine-credit “thematic concentration” in areas such as computer science, economics, life sciences, commerce, or the social sciences to ensure that they can apply statistical methods in another discipline. The concentrations allow students to customize the major or honours programs to reflect their interests. The honours program is suggested for students interested in pursuing graduate research. The Department also offers a Co-op program as an optional part of the B.Sc. in Statistics to provide students with valuable workplace experience.
Combined Major/Honours in Computer Science and Statistics
The Combined B.Sc. in Computer Science and Statistics is offered as both major and honours programs. The honours program is suggested for students interested in pursuing graduate research.

Combined Major in Statistics and Economics
Statistics and Economics as a combined major is available either as a Bachelor of Arts program or as Bachelor of Science program, depending whether the specific degree requirements fit better with your interests in arts or sciences.

Mathematical Sciences

The B.Sc. in Mathematical Sciences integrates math, computer science, and statistics to provide you with a strong foundation of skills and knowledge. While maintaining a strong core in mathematics, the program allows you to emphasize mathematics, statistics, computer science, or any combination of the three. Computer science and statistics are extensively integrated throughout the program.
Minor Programs in Statistics & Data Science
The Minor in Statistics and Minor in Data Science provide a way for students from other majors to augment their learning with key concepts in data analysis. Students majoring in another area can minor in Statistics by completing 18 upper level STAT credits (with the exception that MATH 302 can replace STAT 302). For the minor in Data Science, see the program website.
