Undergraduate Advising

Need help?

Please consult our FAQ first, and if your advising-related question remains unanswered, choose one of the following options:

Option 1: Attend Drop-In Advising

Connect with an advisor through our online drop-in advising office hours. Connection details are available on the Advising Canvas Page (CWL required). To access the page, you must first enroll in the Advising Canvas course (enroll here). This is the fastest way to reach us and also allows us to provide more personalized advising.

Option 2: Submit an Inquiry

Submit your inquiry via our Undergraduate Inquiries Form.

Note: Response times are typically 3 to 5 business days outside of peak periods, such as course registration and the start of term. During peak periods, response times may be longer.

Degree requirements and planning:

Your responsibility

Ensuring that you meet your degree requirements is ultimately your responsibility. UBC completes an official graduation check after you apply to graduate, but that check is not a substitute for tracking your own progress along the way. As the Faculty of Science states: "Ultimately, you, the student, are responsible for ensuring that you meet the requirements for graduation."

Checking early and regularly gives you time to fix any gaps, such as a missing course, an unmet breadth requirement, or a credit shortfall, before they delay your graduation.

How to check your progress

We recommend using both of the following tools:

  1. Academic Progress Report in Workday. This report tracks your progress toward your degree and is the best starting point. You can run it at any time.

  2. Manual check against the UBC Academic Calendar. Compare your transcript against the requirements for your program UBC Calendar. This lets you confirm that the details of your program, including specific course requirements, upper-level credits, and any other Faculty requirements, are met.

Using both tools is important. The Academic Progress Report is a helpful guide, but a manual check helps you catch anything the report may not reflect clearly and gives you a fuller understanding of your own degree.

What Statistics Advising can and cannot do

We can:

  • Answer specific questions about program requirements after you have completed both checks above
  • Help you interpret requirements or calendar language that is unclear
  • Discuss course planning and options for meeting outstanding requirements

We cannot:

  • Complete a graduation check on your behalf
  • Guarantee that you have met all requirements for graduation

Please do not rely on advising to confirm that you are "all set." Only the official check by UBC, which takes place after you apply to graduate, determines whether you have met the requirements.

Before you contact Statistics Advising

To help us give you useful answers, please:

  1. Run your Academic Progress Report in Workday.
  2. Complete a manual check of your transcript against the UBC Calendar.
  3. Come with specific questions, such as "The report shows X as unmet, but I believe Y course satisfies it. Can you confirm?" Include what you have already checked.

Advisors can answer targeted questions much more effectively than open-ended ones like "Can you check if I'm on track?"
