UBC Statistics 4^th year student Abhinav Kansal captivated audiences at the prestigious National Collegiate Research Conference (NCRC) 2024, held at Harvard University. Selected as one of only twelve Plenary Speakers from over 500 students representing 100+ universities globally, the student showcased exceptional passion and technical expertise.

In a recent announcement on the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS)'s website, our Statistics Associate Professor, Trevor Campbell, was awarded the PIMS/UBC Mathematical Sciences Early Career Award for 2023. This award recognizes UBC researchers for their leading edge work in mathematics or its applications in the sciences.

Congratulations to Nirupama Tamvada, the recipient of the Rick White Award for the UBC academic year 2022.

Nirupama has had the opportunity to work on fruitful collaborations related to biomedical data. She worked in collaboration with the CANSII CRT research team to develop a methodology for analyzing high-dimensional survival data with multiple events.

Congratulations to UBC Statistics M.Sc. student Xinyuan (Chloe) You for winning the CSSC Oral Presentation Competition. Chloe’s talk on "Regularized Relative Risk Regression for High-dimensional Data" won the 2^nd prize oral presentation at the Master’s level at the 11^th Annual Canadian Statistics Student Conference (CSSC). Chloe is supervised by professor Gabriela V. Cohen-Freue.

Congratulations to our Associate Professor Daniel McDonald on his role as the Regional Representative on the board of directors representing Alberta, British Columbia, and Yukon of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC). His new role began on July 1, 2023 and he will serve until June 30, 2025.

2023 SSC Case Studies in Data Analysis Poster Competition was held on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Carleton University, Ottawa, ON. The case studies are intended to provide enthusiastic teams of graduate and senior undergraduate students with the opportunity to use data analysis to address issues of current importance in society. Each participating team chooses to analyze one of the two studies described on the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) website. Each team is strongly encouraged to identify a faculty member to support the members as they develop their analytic approach and final presentation. Team members work together to present a poster summarizing their methods and analysis results.
